Job Summary
Job Cost Accountant located in Calgary, AB, partnering with project managers to provide visibility into project financial performance including timely billing, accurate job cost reporting, and project-level financial analysis. Responsibilities include coordinating billing and cash flow for Time & Material pricing, ensuring billing aligns with contract terms, tracking holdbacks, identifying unbilled revenue, performing project-level financial analysis (budget vs actual, cost trends, margins, cost overruns, variances), reconciling project balances, maintaining job cost records across labor/equipment/materials/Subcontractors, supporting month-end accruals and variance analysis, and process-improvement of billing/reporting workflows using Excel/Power BI. Qualifications include a diploma/degree in a related field and 1–3 years of construction/project-based accounting experience, with proficiency in Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, SUMIFs), familiarity with revenue recognition in a project environment, and knowledge of JDE/ReportsNow and IFRS 15 are assets. Strong communication, attention to detail, time management, teamwork, problem solving, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are emphasized.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field
- 1–3 years of experience in construction or project-based accounting
- Good understanding of job costing, project billing, and basic margin analysis
- Demonstrated experience and abilities in reviewing and analyzing project financial and explain project financial results.
- Experience of using excel tools, Power Query or Power BI reports to analyze project financial performance
- Technical Skills
- Intermediate-to-advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookup functions, SUMIFs/COUNTIFs.
- Understanding of revenue and cost recognition (including deferral) in a project environment
- Clear and practical communication to translate financial data into actionable information for PMs to use
- Experience of using JDE and ReportsNow is an asset
- Basic awareness of IFRS 15 is an asset
