Job Summary
Manage financial accounting and cost control for construction and service contracts from award through closeout by maintaining the job cost ledger and preparing monthly work-in-progress schedules. Review labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs to correct jobs and cost codes, then reconcile job costs to the general ledger and investigate variances. Support the setting up of new contracts, track change orders, and assist with month-end and year-end close activities including accruals and journal entries. Collaborate with project managers to review job profitability, forecast costs to complete, and flag at-risk jobs while ensuring compliance with ASC 606 revenue recognition standards. Provide schedules and support for external auditors, sureties, and bonding companies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, engineering, or a project-based / contract environment
- Working knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to reconcile complex cost data
- Effective communication skills to partner with project managers, division leaders, and senior management
