JH Girls Head Basketball Coach

Job Summary
Lead the Junior High Girls Basketball program by planning, organizing, and implementing an instructional athletic program that develops players’ skills and sportsmanship. Communicate expectations, practices, competitions, and events to parents, players, and administration; coordinate transportation and practice times; supervise and direct assistant coaches; and ensure adherence to IAHSAA/IGHSAU codes, district policies, and safety standards. Manage equipment, inventories, and team rosters; monitor student attendance, behavior, and academic progress; collaborate with counselors and school staff to verify both residential and academic eligibility. Teach sport techniques, strategies, and tactics; emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork, and responsible conduct; respond to injuries with approved first aid procedures; and model professional ethics. Engage in ongoing professional growth and align practices with Iowa Teaching Standards and district goals. Perform additional duties as assigned and maintain open communication with stakeholders to support student-athlete success.
Required Qualifications
- State coaching/activities supervision certificate if not certificated teacher
- Current state coaching/activities supervision certificate or equivalent
- Appropriate license per Iowa requirements for employment
- Knowledge of rules, strategies, and techniques of basketball
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
- Good attendance and strong human relations skills
- Understanding of athletic program operations and safety procedures
- Familiarity with IAHSAA and IGHSAU codes and district/state athletic policies
- Reports to Activities Director and Building Principal
- Willingness to adhere to district policies and professional codes of ethics
- Ability to communicate expectations, practices, schedules, and events to parents, athletes, and administration
- Experience in supervising multiple coaches and coordinating transportation for away games
- Commitment to student-athlete academic eligibility and safety
- Professional growth and development aligned with Iowa Teaching Standards
