Java Backend Developer – AWS & Architecture

Job Summary
Design and develop scalable backend applications and services using Java, Groovy, and AWS. Build, integrate, and test RESTful APIs while configuring CI/CD pipelines and managing Git workflows. Monitor application health and system performance using Grafana, then investigate technical issues to identify root causes and implement solutions. Contribute to technical architecture, solution design, and proofs of concept within an Agile Scrum environment. Collaborate directly with client stakeholders and cross-functional teams to deliver new features, enhancements, and bug fixes while maintaining high coding standards. This individual contributor role combines hands-on development with cloud architecture for a global technology organization delivering large-scale digital platforms.
Required Qualifications
- 9–14 years of professional software engineering experience
- At least 8 years of strong, hands-on Java development experience
- Recent experience remaining actively involved in software development and coding
- Strong backend development experience
- Strong Java programming skills
- Practical experience designing technical solutions and application architectures
- Strong AWS experience, including the design and architecture of cloud-based solutions
- Experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs and web services
- Strong experience with Git
- Experience configuring, managing or working extensively with CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with monitoring, observability and system metrics
- Hands-on experience with Grafana or comparable monitoring platforms
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum software development environments
- Strong analytical, debugging and technical problem-solving capabilities
- The ability to work directly with clients and technical stakeholders
- Good employment stability, ideally including periods of at least two years with previous employers
- Valid authorisation to work in the Netherlands
- Candidates already based in the Netherlands
- Candidates currently based elsewhere in Europe who already hold valid authorisation to work in the Netherlands and are prepared to relocate to the Amsterdam area
- Candidates relocating for the position must be willing to cover their own relocation expenses
- All successful candidates must be able to attend the Amsterdam office as required under the hybrid working arrangement
- Candidates should ideally be available to start immediately or within 30 days
