Job Summary
Reviewer/Editor/Certifier to support the Department of Justice (DOJ) with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription and other Linguistic Support Services. Responsibilities include translating documents and media (written, electronic, audio, and video), and providing ancillary services such as court and deposition interpretation. Work involves handling material that is legal in nature across domains (medical, chemical, financial, historical, etc.) and formats (books, reports, emails, multimedia). All materials are treated as sensitive with strict confidentiality. Candidates must meet stringent language, editing, and citizenship requirements, and be proficient with translation resources and CAT tools (notably SDL Trados Studio). The role requires U.S. citizenship, ILR level 4 or equivalent, and involvement with or understanding of law enforcement/legal contexts, with potential travel and remote work options dependent on assignment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language within the past ten years with superior English and editing skills
- Qualifying ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (not necessarily consecutive)
- Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Proficient in English and the foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual contexts
- Know specialized vocabulary in English and the foreign language related to the Government’s varied roles and missions; able to use translation resources and reference materials
- Write in native language fluently while maintaining professional command of the non-native language
- Translate in a factually and conceptually accurate manner without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source language materials
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Proficient in Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, especially SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location flexibility: Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Travel: Some travel may be required
