Job Summary
Oversee daily custodial operations at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, leading a team of cleaning professionals to maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation. Perform routine and specialized cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash removal, restroom sanitation, and floor-care procedures while actively participating in operations on the floor. Conduct regular walk-through inspections, identify deficiencies, and correct issues to ensure assigned areas meet established standards. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot commercial cleaning equipment such as floor machines, buffers, and auto-scrubbers. Monitor and restock cleaning supplies, track inventory levels, and assist with ordering materials. Follow OSHA regulations, PPE requirements, and chemical-handling procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Respond promptly to spills, urgent cleaning needs, and after-hours calls to resolve issues immediately. Complete essential administrative duties such as timesheets, basic reports, and staff scheduling while keeping desk work to a minimum.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or technical certificate
- Minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience in Janitorial or facilities management
- Minimum of 2 years' supervisory or team lead experience
- Experience managing multi-site janitorial operations
- Strong understanding of commercial cleaning techniques, equipment, and chemicals
- Proficiency of health and safety regulations related to cleaning, including OSHA standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Teams, Outlook, Excel)
- Valid driver's license
- Valid Real ID
- Must be able to obtain and maintain government base access
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull cleaning equipment and supplies weighing up to 25-30 pounds regularly
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
