Janitor I

Janitor I role responsible for performing comprehensive janitorial duties to keep The Salvation Army Resource Centre and associated facilities clean, safe, and sanitary. Responsibilities include cleaning shelter areas, kitchens, washrooms, offices, dining areas, and common spaces; vacuuming, mopping, dusting, window and door care, waste removal, laundry tasks for shelter materials, and move/stock cleaning supplies. Regular tasks include cleaning Shelter Rooms, floors, bathrooms, kitchen areas, lobby and entrance spaces, and performing weekly and other maintenance duties as identified by supervision. Must ensure disinfecting and housekeeping standards are maintained; manage paper products and cleaning supplies; operate and maintain equipment (vacuum, dishwasher, industrial laundry machines, etc.); comply with safety and government standards and certifications (WHMIS, First Aid asset, background checks). Reports to Maintenance/Janitorial Supervisor and collaborates with Community Services staff; flexible hours and potential high-stress situations when serving clients. Possess or obtain required certifications and a valid Class 4 Driver’s License is an asset.
