Job Summary
Monitor inmate movements via direct supervision or video systems while mediating disturbances and inspecting housing areas for contraband, weapons, and fire hazards. Process intake and release paperwork, including fingerprinting and photographing individuals, and dispense medication according to prescriptions. Operate the control room, manage door access, distribute meals, and oversee cell cleaning to maintain safe living conditions. Coordinate store calls twice weekly and assist with inmate transport to hospitals or court. Maintain physical readiness for confrontational situations and adhere to strict attendance requirements. Pass the Physical Agility Test and obtain Georgia POST BASIC JAIL OFFICER Certification within six months.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Georgia POST BASIC JAIL OFFICER Certification required or obtainable in six months
- Valid Class I Driver's License
- Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
- Knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures used in controlling and disciplining inmates
- Knowledge of modern principles of criminology and penology
- Knowledge of federal, state, and county rules and regulations, policies and laws governing Jails
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in stressful situations
- Ability to control a large group of inmates
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing)
- Ability to move oneself in a variety of environments by walking
- Ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, twisting at the waist, hips or knees
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and ramps
- Ability to position oneself by crouching or kneeling
- Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces
- Ability to repetitively use hands/arms/legs
- Ability to grasp items
- Ability to move/transport items up to 25lbs
