Job Summary
Monitor inmate movements via direct supervision or video systems and mediate disturbances. Inspect housing areas for contraband, weapons, and fire hazards, performing periodic block shakedowns. Process prisoners through initial searches, intake paperwork, fingerprinting, and medication distribution. Operate the control room to manage doors and video screens, while distributing meals and overseeing cell cleaning. Coordinate store calls twice weekly and assist with inmate transport to hospitals or court. Maintain order and discipline while ensuring a safe environment, working irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Georgia POST BASIC JAIL OFFICER Certification required or obtainable in six months
- Valid Class I Driver's License
- Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
- Knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures used in controlling and disciplining inmates
- Knowledge of modern principles of criminology and penology
- Knowledge of federal, state, and county rules and regulations, policies and laws governing Jails
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in stressful situations
- Ability to control a large group of inmates
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing)
- Ability to move oneself in a variety of environments by walking
- Ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, twisting at the waist, hips or knees
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and ramps
- Ability to position oneself by crouching or kneeling
- Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces
- Ability to repetitively use hands/arms/legs
- Ability to grasp items
- Ability to move/transport items up to 25lbs
