Job Summary
Operates lathes, milling machines, boring machines and grinders to machine metallic and nonmetallic workpieces according to specifications and tooling instructions. Reads blueprints or job orders for product specifications, dimensions and tolerances; selects, positions and secures tools; positions workpieces in holding devices; sets up fixtures, starts machines, and feeds tools to achieve required dimensions. Measures tool and work offsets and verifies conformance with prints using gauges, calipers and micrometers. Maintains safe, clean work areas and follows company safety guidelines; implements deburring and uses hand tools as needed. Requires High School Diploma or GED and typically 6 months of machining courses or equivalent experience; blueprint reading skills are required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 6 months of machining courses from an accredited institution or equivalent
- Education or experience in blueprint reading
