ITS Project Manager - Intelligent Transportation Systems

Job Summary
Lead Engineer and Project Manager for mid- to large-scale ITS projects at Bolton & Menk, coordinating as technical and project lead across planning, design, and implementation of ITS infrastructure (communications networks, system integration, transit signal priority, and connected corridor technologies). Hybrid work arrangement based in or able to operate from our Charlotte, NC offices. Responsibilities include developing technical studies and design packages, presenting solutions to state/municipal/transit clients, leading pursuit strategies and proposals, managing scopes, schedules, budgets, and resources, and ensuring compliance with state/local/federal transportation standards while supporting business development and client relationships.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- 8+ years of relevant traffic engineering and/or ITS experience, or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of hire
- Experience managing engineering design and/or planning projects across the full project lifecycle
- Direct experience supporting state or county transportation agencies, and/or transit agencies
- Experience with BRT and rail technology systems
- Demonstrated success in business development, municipal client engagement, and pursuit leadership
- Technical experience in one or more of the following: Fiber optic communications detailed design, CCTV Camera Systems, Dynamic Message Signs, Vehicle Detection Systems, BRT and Rail technology systems, System integration, Weather monitoring systems, Variable Speed Limit Systems, Dynamic Lane Management Systems, Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems, Transit signal priority, Tolling systems, ATMS Software
- Experience with delivering complex preliminary and final design packages including plans, specifications, and cost estimate
- Experience coordinating with MPOs, transit agencies, and regional planning organizations
- Active engagement in relevant professional organizations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
