Job Summary
Itinerant Supervisory Special Education Aide assists teachers in daily instructional and non-instructional activities, with primary duties involving one-on-one support for a Visually Impaired student. Responsibilities include communicating and collaborating with staff, assisting with routine classroom operations, understanding the student’s disability, maintaining classroom materials, attending open houses/conferences when requested, recording and correcting student work, loading/unloading wheelchair-bound students on bus or supervising transportation, managing small groups when the teacher is unavailable, instructing use of exercise equipment and production machinery, participating in physical activities as part of the student’s program, assisting with restroom needs and hygiene procedures, maintaining flexibility in schedule, supporting duplication and collection of educational paperwork, and completing required training. The role requires the ability to work with emotionally/physically/mentally impaired students, maintain composure under stress, develop effective working relationships, and comply with district policies and confidentiality regulations. The job is evaluated per district guidelines under applicable ADA provisions, with an emphasis on safety and supportive instructional environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- State mandated competency exam.
