Job Summary
Design, operate, and manage the university's central research computing infrastructure, including supercomputing clusters, scalable storage systems, and specialized research software. Handle hardware specification, ordering, and installation while performing problem analysis, performance tuning, and job scheduler configuration for SLURM. Advise faculty and students on system usage, assist with code optimization, and support the development of research grant proposals. Manage secure data handling and the on-prem and cloud secure enclave. Complete special projects as assigned. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and eight years of relevant experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
- eight (8) years of relevant experience
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- highly experienced individual skilled at managing Linux-based supercomputing clusters
- scalable parallel file systems (Lustre preferred)
- university research applications
- Linux server installation, configuration and administration (OpenHPC, Redhat Enterprise 7/8, CentOS 7/8/Stream, Ubuntu)
- experience with SELinux
Desired Qualifications
- Centos/RedHat Enterprise Linux
- Linux Virtual Machine and Container Management
- Firewalls
- Scripting in BASH, Python
- scientific computing tools, libraries, and frameworks (e.g., MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, VASP, Gaussian, and Nextflow, Open OnDemand)
- Docker and Singularity
- cluster and job/resource management software (e.g., Slurm, Warewulf, DUO)
- Parallel and distributed file system (Lustre)
- knowledge of Ceph
- databases – Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB
- configuring NIST 800-171 compliant HPC systems
