Job Summary
EMBL IT Services seeks an experienced IT Support Engineer to join the Desktop Support team at EMBL Headquarters in Heidelberg. Responsibilities include professional desktop support for macOS, Windows, and Linux; managing deployments with enterprise tools (e.g., SCCM, JAMF Pro); configuring user environments (accounts, network access, printing, email); diagnosing hardware/software issues; delivering a responsive helpdesk with a focus on customer satisfaction; tracking and documenting support requests per ITSM best practices; and contributing to continuous improvement of IT services and user experience. The role requires hands-on experience supporting Windows, Linux, and macOS across desktop and mobile platforms, familiarity with Active Directory, Exchange and Microsoft 365, and knowledge of virtualization/VDI (e.g., VMware Horizon). The position is a 3-year contract (renewable up to 9 years) with a salary grade starting at €4,580.37 per month after tax, plus extensive benefits; German language skills are considered an asset.
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of professional IT support experience
- Degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience
- Hands-on experience with Windows, Linux and macOS
- Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange and Microsoft 365
- Experience integrating desktop and mobile devices into enterprise IT environments
- Knowledge of virtualization and VDI technologies (e.g. VMware Horizon)
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills in English
- German language skills (nice to have)
