IT Specialist - Senior Telecommunications Cabling Technician - Washington, DC

Job Summary
Install and maintain voice and data cable pathway systems, including twisted pair, coax, and fiber optic cables, by placing, terminating, testing, and labeling components while adhering to industry standards and manufacturer requirements. Mount telecommunications equipment, routers, and switches in racks and cabinets, and manage fire stopping systems in conduits and penetrations. Plan network installations using work orders and technical specifications, order supplies, and inventory stock. Document network configurations through labeling and routing diagrams, and resolve customer concerns while maintaining a safe work environment. Maintain top secret clearance and work independently or in teams across various job sites.
Required Qualifications
- Active Top Secret Clearance
- knowledge of basic computer skills
- demonstrate good writing skills
- knowledgeable in codes, industry standards and best practices
- work well with little supervision individually and in a team environment
- Recent, verifiable equivalent experience in the work described above (within 3 years)
- Verifiable military training on cabling design and/or installation (within 2 years)
- Valid manufacturer training certificate for the product being installed
- valid drivers license
- reliable transportation to get to and from the jobsites
- Ability to use a variety of general and specialty hand tools and test equipment
- ability to discern colors used for safety and telecommunications terminations
- Willing to work in tight, confined areas and stand in one place for long periods of time
- Ability to carry heavy loads as needed
- Ability to carry and climb ladders as needed
- Willingness to work days, nights and weekends as required
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook a plus
- Certified Network Cable Installer (CNCI) - Copper or Fiber
- BICSI Installer 1 or 2 (Copper or Fiber)
- BICSI Technician (Counts as 2 of the requirements)
- BICSI RCDD
