Job Summary
IT Infrastructure Manager at Lyell based in South San Francisco, responsible for hands-on design, build, and operation of cloud (AWS), on-premises, networking, identity, and collaboration platforms, in partnership with an MSP. Drives governance, cost management, and security controls; owns AWS and on-prem infrastructure, backup/DR, VPN, and telecommunications; oversees Okta, Microsoft 365, Zoom, and Slack; supports lab infrastructure; acts as Tier 3 escalation and ensures SOX/GxP compliant operations; collaborates with vendors and leads ITIL-aligned service delivery; requires strong vendor management, documentation, communication, and ability to work across cross-functional teams; background in life sciences or biotech IT environments and extensive AWS experience; scripting/automation and IaC tooling preferred; salary range $175k–$195k plus bonus and equity eligibility.
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS in information technology or equivalent experience
- minimum of 10 years in IT infrastructure
- 8+ years of hands-on solution architecture, design, and implementation across cloud, on-premises, and networking
- experience in life sciences or biotech environments with GxP and validated IT operations
- deep AWS expertise (system engineering, cost governance, security)
- Windows Server, VMware vSphere, Active Directory
- Okta, Microsoft 365, Zoom, Slack administration/governance
- network fundamentals (routing, switching, firewall rules, segmentation) with Cisco Meraki/Palo Alto
- backup systems like Veeam; VPN and telecommunications experience
- scripting/automation (Python, PowerShell, Ruby) or AI/workflow automation
- MSP or third-party service delivery management
- Tier 3 escalation for service desk/operations
- experience with enterprise AI platforms (Anthropic Claude)
- security tooling configuration (EDR, SIEM) and CSV validation support
- ability to produce system documentation and standards
- strong communication and cross-functional collaboration
- AWS certifications preferred
- infrastructure-as-code tools preferred (Terraform, CloudFormation)
