IT Field Services Technician III (Onsite)

Job Summary

Receive, prioritize, and complete service orders for network and telecommunications installations, repairs, moves, adds, and changes across multiple campus locations. Independently prepare, configure, install, and provision switches, wireless access points, phones, emergency communications devices, and UPS systems. Troubleshoot wired, wireless, and voice network issues and pull, terminate, splice, test, and certify copper and fiber-optic cabling infrastructure. Coordinate directly with customers, local IT support teams, contractors, and technical staff while maintaining accurate network documentation and cable management records. Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule throughout the year following a three-month onboarding and training period.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience
  • Experience installing and supporting wired, wireless, and voice network equipment
  • Experience working with copper and fiber-optic infrastructure, including splicing and termination
  • Working knowledge of networking, telecommunications, and structured cabling standards
  • Ability to implement engineering designs and technical specifications independently
  • Working knowledge of industry standards such as TIA/EIA 568-B, single-mode fiber optic cabling
  • Ability to read and comprehend engineering documents and then implement designs to specification in the field
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Ability to obtain and convey technical information to people of varying levels of knowledge and responsibility
  • Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver's License
  • Out-of-state employees must obtain and show proof of a NYS license within 30 days of starting employment
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in Higher Education / R1 Research Universities
  • Experience with Aruba Networks wireless and wired switching platforms
  • Familiarity with Pinnacle / PCR360 or similar cable management systems
  • Familiarity with Team Dynamix, or similar ticket-tracking systems
