Job Summary
Assist a lead teacher with executing instruction, evaluating its effectiveness, and providing one-on-one academic and behavioral support. Monitor student safety, well-being, and attitudes while maintaining classroom discipline, recording suspensions, and preventing crises. Conduct short study skills sessions, reinforce instructions, and help students become increasingly independent. Handle general housekeeping, repair school equipment, and perform various clerical duties including grading, filing incident reports, and managing attendance. Feed and toilet students as needed, and assist with any tasks students cannot perform independently. Maintain standardized records, develop instructional materials, and operate audiovisual equipment. Participate in staff development workshops and perform other related work as required.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- minimum of 48 hours of college level coursework
- A minimum GPA of 2.0
- completion of the Workkeys tests for Applied Math and score 4
- Graphic Literacy and score 4
- Workplace Documents and score 4
- 96 contact hours in in reading, writing, math strategies, working with special needs and technology
- Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, equipment for children with special needs, etc.
- Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
- Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work
- Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things
- Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information
- Includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors
- Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc.
- Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using prescribed format
- Requires the ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

- Some knowledge of the curriculum for the grade
- Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when student is participating in an inclusive activity
