Job Summary
ISS Instructional Assistant provides instructional support to students assigned to In-School Suspension (ISS), notifies teachers of placements, administers assigned tasks, offers individualized instruction, organizes student work, and maintains a positive, productive learning environment. The role requires collaboration with teachers, parents, and administrators, effective communication, classroom-management skills, confidentiality, and adherence to school policies and state/federal regulations. The position operates 187 days per year (8 hours daily) with compensation based on the Madison City Schools Salary Schedule. Background checks are required, including fingerprints. The role falls under non-exempt FLSA status and may involve enforcing behavior modification and supporting students' academic tasks while in ISS. The employer reserves the right to fill via internal transfer if needed, and employment terms align with district policy.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Associate Degree or higher preferred
- Experience in working with school age children preferred
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
- FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
- Background Check Required: Fingerprints for background review by state and FBI
- Notifies classroom teachers of each student(s) scheduled placement in ISS
- Provides instructional assistance and encouragement to students
- Organizes student work and returns to classroom teacher
- Maintains standard of student behavior to support learning
- Under Students First Act of 2011, employment conditions regarding tenure/status
