Job Summary
Oversee students assigned to in-school suspension while maintaining a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment. Monitor daily attendance, report absences to the attendance clerk, and escort students throughout the school building during transitions, lunch, and breaks. Establish clear expectations for conduct and academic performance, then assign, monitor, and review student coursework to support their progress. Counsel students on behavior and decision-making while communicating with administrators, teachers, and parents regarding progress. Document inappropriate behavior or disciplinary concerns and maintain accurate records for assignments and attendance. Perform classroom assistance as assigned by the building administrator.
Required Qualifications
- Missouri Substitute Certificate issued by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
- Experience working with school-age children
- Knowledge of effective student behavior management strategies and in-school suspension practices
- Ability to maintain a structured and supportive learning environment
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to situations requiring immediate attention
- Ability to think clearly, act decisively, and remain calm in emergency or challenging situations
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, administrators, and parents
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Ability to supervise and escort students throughout the school building
