Job Summary
Mix and load chemicals as prescribed, applying fertilizers and pesticides in safe, efficient manners while maintaining inventory and record-keeping. Identify and treat turf pests including weeds, insects, and diseases, and supervise staff on IPM projects. Operate and calibrate sprayers, spreaders, and other equipment, and perform assigned maintenance and landscaping tasks. Follow directives from the Director of Green and Grounds and/or Superintendent, ensuring all applications comply with local, state, and federal laws. Maintain facility cleanliness and use required PPE while working in a 24-hour environment with rotating weekends and on-call availability.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field preferred
- Two (2) or more years of progressively responsible experience in golf course turf management, with a strong emphasis on integrated pest management
- Experience developing and implementing disease, insect, and weed control programs for warm-season turfgrass
- Experience with pesticide applications, calibration, chemical inventory management, and regulatory compliance
- Experience operating spray equipment and maintaining application records
- Must have Florida FDACS Commercial Ornamental & Turf License, or must obtain license within 90 days of hire
- Employee must be familiar with and educated about South Florida flora and fauna
- Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in landscape and golf maintenance practices
- Must be proficient in speaking, reading and writing English
- Calculate pesticide application rates, tank mixes, and dilution ratios
- Convert measurements between ounces, gallons, pounds, acres, square feet, and metric units
- Determine application rates based on label instructions
- Calculate fertilizer and chemical quantities needed for specific treatment areas
- Interpret calibration data and equipment output
- Perform basic algebra and percentage calculations
- Prepare inventory usage reports and assist with budget tracking
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to operate golf course equipment such as hand mowers, triplex and light weight fairway mowing
- Must be able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position
- Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling
- Frequent repetitive motions
- Continuous standing and walking
- Must use personal protective equipment (PPE), such as a respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye guards/visors, boots and hat, when required
- Availability for on-call duty and the ability to respond to after-hours communications or emergencies
