Job Summary
Conduct on-site investigations to determine circumstances surrounding deaths, including time of death and probable cause. Collect medical records and demographic information while writing complete, accurate statements of investigation to support the Medical Examiner's examination in establishing cause of death. Investigate deaths occurring within the jurisdiction of the Jackson County Medical Examiner's office. Must obtain Medicolegal Death Investigator registration within the first year of employment and maintain a valid driver's license.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or Biological Sciences that includes anatomy or physiology
- one (1) year of full-time experience as a medical investigator, deputy coroner, law enforcement officer, mortician, paramedic/emergency medical technician, firefighter, registered nurse, or related field
- ability to obtain a Medicolegal Death Investigator registration within first year of employment
- valid Driver's License
- submit to/pass pre-employment background check and drug screen
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or Biological Sciences that includes anatomy or physiology is preferred
