Job Summary
Conduct defense investigations and trial preparation for indigent clients in care and protection, guardianship, delinquency, and youthful offender cases by locating and interviewing witnesses, documenting crime scenes, and searching databases. Prepare oral and written reports, measure and photograph locations, and serve summonses to witnesses while maintaining open lines of communication with attorneys regarding case strategy. Collaborate with staff attorneys, social workers, and other investigators to develop defense strategies and ensure timely witness appearances in juvenile court. Work under the direction of the Attorney in Charge and Supervising Investigator across Brockton, Fall River, and Hyannis offices.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree with coursework in criminal justice, forensics, law or related area of study
- A minimum of three years of experience in juvenile or criminal defense investigations or a related investigative field which primarily involves the interviewing of persons, obtaining facts, inspection of records and writing reports
- An equivalent combination of education, experience, and skills
- A valid and active Massachusetts driver's license
- Full access to a dependable automobile
- Access to home internet access sufficient to work remotely
- A bachelor's degree (substitutable for up to 2 years of investigatory experience)
