Job Summary
Research, write, and produce investigative content across all platforms for WSOC/CMG Charlotte, actively supporting the Action 9 brand by investigating tips, responding to inquiries, and conducting interviews. Lead investigations within CMG Charlotte and across Cox Media Group as needed, while developing a strong network of sources for stories and background information. Submit and manage public records requests, produce investigative shoots, and collaborate with legal counsel. Maintain high journalistic ethics and accuracy while utilizing knowledge of courts, police records, and government operations. This role requires strong editorial judgment, experience in television news, and the ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. In-person work is required at CMG Charlotte.
Required Qualifications
- Strong editorial judgment
- Knowledge of undercover investigative techniques as well as laws regarding libel, privacy rights, audio/video recording and property rights
- Strong research and data analysis skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field
- Experience in television news, preferably in investigative and/or consumer reporting
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
- Ability to travel if needed
- Comfortable in a fast-paced newsroom
- Ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and credibility
- Understanding of social media
- This position requires in-person work at CMG Charlotte
