Job Summary
Perform all exams and technical procedures for diagnostic and treatment of diseases under clinical direction, including setting up equipment, positioning patients, and maintaining sterile technique. Preps patients for procedures, transports them as needed, and verifies patient identity using two identifiers while obtaining informed consent. Enter charges for supplies and procedures, maintain stock levels, and ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and state regulations. Educate patients on post-procedural care and provide privacy and comfort throughout the interaction. Work flexible hours including on-call rotation to meet departmental needs in both IR and vascular hybrid settings.
Required Qualifications
- Functions under the direction of the clinical coordinator and/or department manager
- Assists with providing safe, age appropriate care to the patient
- Perform all exams provided by the department according to department procedures
- Properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study
- Perform a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative
- Utilize the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases
- Independently perform job functions
- Set up the equipment to provide imaging service
- Position patient for the procedure
- Perform procedures in both the IR and vascular hybrid interventional procedural setting
- Complete VI competencies
- Use critical thinking skills
- Work in conjunction with radiologists/vascular surgeons/cardiologists
- Prep the patient for procedure
- Demonstrate and understand sterile technique
- Prepare necessary supplies and equipment for procedure
- Enter appropriate charges for supplies and procedures (SIM CODES)
- Be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs
- Work scheduled and On-Call
- Know existing lines of communication and authority
- Handle communications properly
- Introduce self to patient and/or guardian utilizing proper scripting
- Transport patients as needed
- Provide privacy and comfort for patient/customers
- Assist with maintenance of departmental records, Joint Commission standards, State and Federal Regulations and performance Improvement
- Complete necessary paperwork
- Answer departmental phone using proper scripting
- Maintain stock levels and outdates
- Maintain current License
- Maintain current BLS certifications
- Assist in inservice/training for other medical imaging staff as appropriate
- Work as a team with other VI staff to obtain the best possible outcome
- Perform any other duties as needed when asked by leadership
- Verify patient ID using 2 patient identifiers
- Verify front of patient chart for same/similar name sticker
- Verify Written Order and Consent
- Seek clarification if order or consent unclear
- Use and understand preprocedural verification/ time out form
- Understand and comply with site/ side marking when indicated
- Responsible for patient, family/support system education
- Provide post procedural home care instructions as needed
- Comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct
- High School Diploma General or GED General or Accredited Program Radiologic Technology
- ARRT-R - ARRT Radiography or ARRT-S - ARRT Sonography
- BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
- Minimum 1 year experience in Diagnostic Radiology
