Job Summary
Provide patient, guardians, and staff access to employees who accurately interpret via face-to-face encounters during designated hours. Interpret health care information to and from Spanish-speaking patients and Cook Children's Medical Center Prosper health care providers for all aspects of emergency and inpatient care. Act as a Language Liaison between the patient, guardians, and staff in support of the medical plan of care. Facilitate acquisition of Interpreter Services for non-Spanish languages via OPI, over-the-phone interpreter, VRI, or on-site contract services. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in English and Spanish, meet system-defined proficiency levels, and hold Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of employment.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrates proficiency in English and secondary language
- Spanish proficiency levels defined by Cook Childrens Health Care System
- Proficient level on nationally recognized oral language, reading and writing tests
- Basis Life Support (BLS) Certification for Health Care Providers
Desired Qualifications
- Previous interpretation / translation experience
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Experienced Interpreter in the following language: Spanish
