Job Summary
Act as interpreter using English and Inuktitut (South Baffin dialect) at meetings; translate council/committee minutes and correspondence to ensure clear communication between Councillors, staff and the public; requires high-speed keyboarding, proficiency with translation software, strong confidentiality, and ability to manage multiple priorities with evening availability; minimum education of Grade 12 with additional translation/interpreter training; minimum 1 year related experience; assets include recognized interpreter/translator program and knowledge of municipal technical terminology; bilingual in Inuktitut and English with strong writing/spelling/grammar; security clearance required.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 or equivalent plus additional training in translation and simultaneous interpretation equipment
- Minimum of 1 year experience in an Interpreter/Translator related role
- Completion of a recognized Interpreter/Translator program (Assets)
- Ability to understand basic technical terminology for City Operating Services (Planning and Lands, Recreation, Fire and Engineering Services)
- French Language
- The ability to work evenings in addition to regular workdays when needed for meetings of Council
- Criminal Record Check required at time of application
- Indigenous Language Required
