Job Summary
Interpret Spanish language in spoken and written forms to provide bilingual capacity for various programs. Assist non-English speaking persons in understanding programs, procedures, and questions by handling initial telephone and office contacts, making referrals, and providing information. Support staff and clients during home and office interviews, help fill out forms and applications, and interpret documents for agency personnel. Schedule client appointments and translate during these meetings while assisting in interpreting agency programs for Spanish-speaking groups. Translate agency policies and materials into Spanish as required. Work Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm for 35 hours under the supervision of a superior.
Required Qualifications
- A working knowledge of the Spanish language
- the ability to read, speak and write Spanish
- the ability to interpret and translate Spanish into the written and spoken forms of the English language
- a familiarity with the culture and customs of Spanish groups and communities
- the ability to relate to and understand the problems of non-English speaking persons and groups
- the ability to establish effective working relationships with agency personnel and the public
- graduation from a senior high school
- working or living in a setting where the Spanish language was used
- any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience
- employment eligibility validated through E-Verify
