Job Summary
Provide on-site and virtual interpretation for meetings involving parents, students, and Department personnel. Responsibilities include simultaneous interpretation with occasional consecutive interpretation and sight translation when necessary, maintaining accuracy, neutrality, confidentiality, and professionalism, and supporting interactions among families and school staff. Travel to NYC schools and administrative offices; participate in virtual meetings via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet; ensure reliable internet and a quiet workspace; remain available for scheduled events; complete required documentation and training; and comply with security and privacy requirements. Typical service hours include 8:00 AM–10:00 PM ET, Monday–Friday, with occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekend assignments.
Required Qualifications
- Must have three (3) years of professional interpretation experience
- Fluency in English and at least one target language
- Demonstrated proficiency in simultaneous and consecutive interpretation
- Strong verbal communication and listening skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics standards
- Experience working with diverse populations and multicultural communities
- Successful completion of all required background checks and fingerprinting procedures
- Eligibility clearance must be obtained before providing services
