Job Summary

The Interpretive Fellow, Latinx Art will support the MFAH Learning and Interpretation department by developing interpretive online resources from Latinx art research, collaborating with Curatorial and Learning/Interpretation teams to create gallery content (print, digital guides, iPad materials, MFAH mobile app), and translating conservation research into accessible content for visitors; responsibilities include training docents and teens, participating in ¡Aquí Estamos! project meetings, and contributing to interpretive resources with emphasis on Latinx art. The role emphasizes developing interpretive plans, content for guides and apps, and engaging audiences through multilingual (Spanish) resources and related digital tools. The fellowship is a part-time, year-long internship (Sept 2026–May 2027) with a $5,000 stipend, on-site at the MFAH in Houston, TX, requiring strong research, writing, and collaboration across departments. The ideal candidate is early-career with a BA in a related field and an interest in pursuing museum work as an interpreter, educator, or curator.

Required Qualifications

  • BA degree in art history, studio art, or museum studies
  • Ideally pursuing graduate study (MA or MFA) in these or related fields
  • Demonstrated interest or background in Latinx art
  • Reading and writing ability in Spanish is desired
  • Basic fluency in the application of digital resources for learning and research a plus
  • Familiarity with some aspect of museum work or learning theory as it relates to museum audiences
  • Expects to develop a career in museum work, either as a museum interpreter, educator or curator
