Job Summary
Interpretation Developer at The National Archives: develop and deliver innovative visitor experiences across audiences; collaborate with designers and specialists to craft engaging interpretation across traditional and innovative formats; underpin stories with interpretative planning including budget, deadlines, and risk; seek opportunities with cultural partners; act as a writer/editor producing concise copy for interpretation schemes; support cross-team activities within Public Engagement Directorate; flexible schedule including weekends/evenings; travel within the UK to the Kew site for up to 60% of work time; hybrid work arrangement (onsite + home working) with formal interview on-site in July 2026; sponsorship not offered.
Required Qualifications
- Experience of working within exhibitions or interpretation in a cultural, commercial or visitor attraction setting and an understanding of the changes occurring within these
- Experience of working with a variety of audiences needs crafting engagement experiences that exceed their expectations
- Experience of planning, coordinating and delivering high-profile initiatives for diverse audiences within the cultural heritage sector
- Flexible and supportive, able to cope with change as the demands of the project develop
- Excellent interpersonal skills building positive relationships in a multidisciplinary team and independently
- Confident writer able to communicate complex ideas clearly for varied audiences
- Understanding of digital content to blend on- and off-site experiences
- Passion for creating amazing visitor experiences, creative problem solving, and crafting collection-based experiences on and off site
- Willingness to travel within the UK and attend meetings/events outside normal hours
