Job Summary
International Student Success Advisor (ISSA) at Westcliff University blends academic advising, immigration guidance, and student engagement to support international students from enrollment through graduation. Responsibilities include providing accurate guidance on academic progress and immigration regulations related to maintaining F-1 status, conducting individualized advising sessions, monitoring student activity to identify at-risk students, guiding work authorization processes (CPT, OPT, STEM OPT) and coordinating with DSOs for SEVIS updates, assisting with cultural adjustment and financial literacy, conducting withdrawal/re-entry counseling, collaborating with faculty and offices to align academic progress with immigration requirements, leading or supporting workshops and orientations on status maintenance and cultural transition, and contributing to advising resources and retention initiatives. Required and preferred qualifications emphasize a Bachelor's degree in a related field, 1-2 years of experience in international student support or advising, familiarity with SEVIS/F-1 processes, and strong cross-cultural communication skills. Flexibility for occasional evenings/weekends and some travel between campuses is noted; role is hybrid in San Francisco, CA.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counseling, International Relations, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in student advising, international student support, or related higher education field
- Prior experience advising international students strongly preferred
- Previous exposure to SEVIS or F-1 compliance processes preferred
