Internal Traveler - Respiratory Care Practitioner

Job Summary
Assess patient conditions and develop respiratory care plans for neonatal and pediatric populations across critical care, inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings. Administer diagnostic tests including blood gas sampling and assist with intubation and bronchoscopy while maintaining artificial airways and providing mechanical ventilation. Respond to emergencies such as patient transfers, cardiopulmonary arrest, and trauma activations, initiating caregiver teaching and completing necessary documentation. This 13-week internal traveler assignment supports staffing needs within the CHKD Health System, offering up to three renewable cycles for eligible candidates.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care
- Associate degree in respiratory care/therapy
- 2 years of pediatric experience, including experience in the PICU and/or NICU
- American Heart Association (AHA) certification such as Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) designation
- American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) certification such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) designation
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to communicate detailed clinical observations and evaluations with other members of the healthcare team
- Analytical skills necessary to assess patient/family needs, prioritize care based on assessments and develop solutions to problems concerning patient's mental or physical well-being
- Highly motivated, enthusiastic team player who takes initiative
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment
