Job Summary

Perform general respiratory therapy, adult and pediatric critical care, and limited diagnostics for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Execute technical procedures including oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, blood collection, and bedside pulmonary function testing while maintaining equipment quality controls. Formulate care plans based on clinical data and participate in departmental quality assurance and performance improvement activities. Provide patient and co-worker education and adhere to all DCH Health System policies and behavioral standards. This 13-week night shift contract requires current Alabama licensure, RRT or CRT credential, and at least two years of direct-care hospital experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Alabama Respiratory Care licensure
  • Holds active credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
  • Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy
  • Bachelor's degree
  • certificate in Respiratory Therapy
  • at least two (2) years of previous direct-care RT experience in a hospital setting
  • BCLS provider
  • ACLS required
  • NRP required if NICU trained
  • Membership in appropriate professional organization (i.e. American Association for Respiratory Care, Alabama Society for Respiratory Care)
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English
  • Ability to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Ability to lift and carry up to a maximum of 50 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to reach reasonable distances in any direction
  • Ability to run in emergency situations
  • Must be able to move fingers in a coordinated manner
  • Must have ability to feel and perceive temperatures, texture, shape and size with fingertips
  • Physical presence onsite is essential
  • Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range
  • Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • PALS preferred for staff working in the Emergency Department
