Job Summary

Internal Communications Manager who will develop and manage MFA’s internal communications strategy to foster alignment and connection across staff and Board. The role leads and manages a transparent, integrated communications infrastructure connecting the Museum’s workforce—from frontline staff to hybrid administrative teams and the Director’s Office. Collaborates with Marketing and Communications to turn complex organizational goals into engaging narratives, establish predictable channels, content standards, and structured feedback loops, and ensure stakeholders feel informed and valued. Key responsibilities include creating an annual internal communications roadmap (staff meetings, town halls, Director’s office hours, newsletters, Board communications, P&C programs), developing intranet guidelines and staff communications, distributing information via a centralized system, coordinating with governance on Board updates, and facilitating cross-functional monthly alignment meetings. The role emphasizes two-way communication, sentiment analytics, and continuous refinement of tactics using Teams and SharePoint, with an emphasis on inclusion and accessibility. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of multi-channel communications experience, preferably in a museum or nonprofit environment; it involves collaborating across departments, supporting hybrid/onsite frontline staff, and ensuring alignment with the Museum’s mission and strategic priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of communications experience with multi-channel platforms (Intranet, newsletters)
  • Experience in a museum or nonprofit environment preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work in hybrid, onsite environments with frontline staff
  • Experience advising leadership on tone, content and sequencing
  • Ability to build/manage relationships across departments (Director’s Office, P&C, IT, Curatorial)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint
  • Basic to intermediate graphic design and video editing skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills
