Intern – Software Engineering

Intern – Software Engineering role within HARMAN’s Embedded Systems group, focusing on developing and optimizing machine learning inference for resource-constrained edge devices and embedded platforms. You will work across the ML lifecycle from data collection and validation to feature engineering, model training, and deploying optimized inference on embedded hardware. Responsibilities include designing data collection protocols, building validation pipelines, engineering features, training ML models, optimizing models for embedded deployment, deploying and testing on ARM-based embedded Linux devices, writing modular Python code with unit tests and documentation, and collaborating via Git and code reviews. The position offers hands-on experience in ML system optimization, edge computing, and practical problem-solving in a production-focused environment. Eligibility includes current enrollment in a related degree program, willingness to work onsite in Sunnyvale, CA for a 12-week period, and background check/drug screen. Pay scales are listed by academic level and are internship-specific, with compensation ranging from $21.00 to $38.00 per hour depending on year and degree level.
