Job Summary
Archives Intern assists with inventory, preservation, documentation, cataloging, arrangement, and management of archival collections under the supervision of the Archivist. Responsibilities include preserving and storing archival materials (photographs, maps, posters, ephemera, etc.), arranging and cataloging collections for accessibility and long-term preservation, maintaining accurate records, conducting research using local and national databases, surveying collections for preservation needs, supporting archival projects, and pursuing professional development opportunities. Requires completing a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and background investigation, strong organizational and communication skills, ability to work both independently and as part of a team, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and a Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, Humanities, or a closely related field. Native American preference noted; Native American applicants encouraged to apply.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, Humanities, or a closely related field.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and background investigation.
- Understanding of archival theory, principles, best practices, and preservation techniques.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to research, analyze information, and prepare reports and written materials.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
