Job Summary
Intern - AI-Native Software Engineering at Chegg involves contributing to end-to-end feature development across a modern stack (Spring Boot, React/Next.js, Java, Python, Node.js, SQL) on AWS and with AI tools. You will participate in sprint ceremonies, code reviews, and write unit/integration/e2e tests, building dashboards and data products, and delivering features that reach millions of students. The role emphasizes collaboration across cross-functional teams, learning new technologies quickly, and writing production-quality code in a fast-paced internship setting. You will work on UI and backend components, cloud-native infrastructure, and data processing tasks, with opportunities to gain hands-on experience across multiple technologies while contributing to real-world student-focused products.
Required Qualifications
- Currently in final year of or completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
- Solid foundation in at least one general-purpose programming language (Python, Java, Node etc.)
- Understanding of fundamental data structures, algorithms, and software design principles
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows
- Eagerness to learn new technologies quickly and work across unfamiliar stacks
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, feedback-driven mindset
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude) and able to leverage them to speed up development
- Hands-on experience with any tech stack including Node, Java, Python, etc.
- Familiarity with SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or containerisation tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with event-driven systems or streaming platforms (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
- Contributions to open-source projects or a strong personal portfolio / GitHub
- Prior internship or work experience in a software development role
