Job Summary
Prepare preliminary design reports, design criteria, and detailed designs for divided highways, arterial roads, and local road rehabilitation projects. Generate preliminary designs for CADD staff, review drawings for compliance with industry standards, and prepare contract specifications, tender documents, and agency approval applications. Coordinate with clients, sub-consultants, contractors, and construction supervision staff while reviewing and issuing finalized shop drawings. Mentor junior staff and assist with proposal preparation for future projects. Requires proficiency in MicroStation, Civil 3D, and MTO software applications, along with 5-7 years of experience in roadway design.
Required Qualifications
- At least 5-7 years of experience
- Emphasis and proficiency with MicroStation
- Emphasis and proficiency with Openroads
- Emphasis and proficiency with AutoCAD
- Emphasis and proficiency with Civil 3D
- Experience with earlier versions of MicroStation
- Experience with Inroads
- Strong computer software skills with ProjectWise
- Strong computer software skills with Word
- Strong computer software skills with Excel
- Strong computer software skills with MS Project
- Highly proficient in the use of MTO's software applications CPS
- Highly proficient in the use of MTO's software applications HiCo
- Comprehensive knowledge with MTO standards
- Comprehensive knowledge with Metrolinx standards
- Comprehensive knowledge with various Municipal design and drafting standards
- Comprehensive knowledge with various Regional design and drafting standards
- Skilled in cost estimating
- Skilled in quantity preparation
- Skilled in specification writing
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities
