Job Summary
Conduct field investigations, including visual and destructive testing, for building condition assessments, reserve fund studies, and envelope repair projects. Prepare written reports with cost analysis and design recommendations for government, private owners, and institutional lenders. Develop contract documents, plans, details, and specifications for renovations, then manage tendering and construction administration by drafting field observation reports. Liaise with clients, consultants, and contractors to ensure compliance and on-time, on-budget delivery while prioritizing multiple small-to-medium projects. Mentor a junior staff person and work with senior engineers and architects as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a Certificate in Architectural or Building Science Technology from an accredited University or School of Technology
- Valid Canadian Driver's License
- Working knowledge of building codes and standards
- Experience with concrete and masonry restoration, cladding and glazing upgrades, roofs, etc.
- Up to 20% local travel
Desired Qualifications
- Ideally be a Certified Technologist, P. Eng, are Registered Architect or have the capacity to become one in the next 1-2 years
- Ideally have 7+ years prior experience in building science/building envelope restoration/technical side of architecture in a consulting setting
- Some experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
