Job Summary
Intermediate Mechanical Engineer (Toronto) sought to design high-performance building systems for commercial and institutional projects. Responsible for designing plumbing, drainage, fire protection, heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) systems; leading mechanical design from concept through construction documents; coordinating with architects, structural and electrical engineers; developing and maintaining Revit models and engineering drawings; performing load calculations and equipment selections; integrating energy modelling and lifecycle costing; managing day-to-day project activities including client meetings and consultant coordination; mentoring EITs/junior staff; and contributing innovative mechanical solutions for green, high-performance building projects. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, P.Eng. or eligible licensure, 5-10 years of relevant experience, proficiency with BIM/Revit and load-calculation tools, and knowledge of ASHRAE, building codes, and LEED accreditation is a plus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Technology Diploma in a related discipline
- P.Eng. or P.L.(Eng.) licensure (or eligibility) required
- 5-10 years of experience designing HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems for commercial and institutional buildings, or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated project experience
- Proficient with BIM software (Revit preferred) and load calculation tools (Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, or similar)
- Working knowledge of codes and standards including ASHRAE 62.1, ASHRAE 90.1, National Building Code of Canada, Ontario Building Code, NFPA 13/14, and CSA B149
- Experience with schematic design, design development, detailed engineering calculations, equipment selection, and specification writing
- Familiarity with construction administration processes including site reviews, shop drawing review, and RFI responses
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Energetic, proactive, and collaborative with ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
