Job Summary
Intermediate Materials Testing Technician role based in Western Canada at McElhanney. The successful candidate will work on both field and laboratory testing projects, conducting laboratory soil, concrete, and asphalt testing (including wash sieve analysis, proctor tests, compressive strength for concrete cylinders, and Marshall properties), as well as field testing of concrete (slump, air content) and field compaction (nuclear densometer). You’ll prepare timely reports and collaborate with a multi-discipline team of engineers, technicians, surveyors, and drafters. The position requires travel to remote sites and the ability to work in varied environmental conditions. A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology is an asset but not required; CCIL/ACI certifications or the ability to obtain them, and knowledge of CSA/ASTM methods are assets. Strong communication and leadership skills, and the ability to work as part of a team, are important. The role offers an attractive salary range ($60,000 - $90,000 per annum), relocation support if applicable, and a comprehensive benefits package.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of prior experience with earthworks/concrete construction
- Construction inspection and/or survey experience is an asset
- A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology is an asset, but not required
- CCIL/ACI certification or ability to obtain certification
- Knowledge of CSA and ASTM testing methods would be considered an asset
- Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, willing to work in various environmental conditions with varied terrain, able to work in wildlife populated areas and willing to work in remote areas when needed
- Good attitude and willingness to work cooperatively as a team player
- Strong communication skills and leadership capabilities
- Ability to travel to remote sites and work away from home for extended periods of time
