Job Summary

Intermediate Coastal Engineer to support Florida Panhandle coastal projects with living shorelines, marsh/oyster reef restoration, breakwaters, and nature-based coastal systems. Responsibilities include engineering design, numerical modeling (Delft3D, SWAN, HEC-RAS, ADCIRC, FUNWAVE, XBeach, CMS-Wave), field surveys, permitting coordination, QA/QC, and collaboration across disciplines. Prepare data and visuals, develop design reports and technical memoranda for permitting and construction, and stay current with coastal engineering practices. Travel may be required. Bachelor’s degree in a related Coastal/Civil Engineering field with 1-3 years of experience and Engineer-In-Training credential required; Master’s degree preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering with a focus in Coastal Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • 1-3 years of relevant post education experience in coastal engineering
  • Engineer-In-Training (any U.S. state)
  • Foundational knowledge of coastal engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to environmental permitting and project work-related issues
  • Foundational knowledge with hydrodynamics, wave mechanics, sediment transport, coastal morphology, and coastal engineering design principals
  • Foundational understanding of coastal processes, including waves, tides, storm surge, sediment dynamics, and shoreline change
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
  • Proficient level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC
  • Proficient with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently
  • Ability to uphold workplace safety and ability to abide by company health, safety policies
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
  • Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience with coastal Florida or Gulf Coast projects
  • Proficient understanding of coastal and surface water numerical models (Delft3D, SWAN, HEC-RAS, ADCIRC, FUNWAVE, XBeach, or similar), and ESRI ArcGIS
  • Field experience supporting coastal construction, monitoring, or adaptive management
  • Boating Safety Certificate or willingness to obtain one
