Job Summary

Interim School Business Administrator/Board Secretary for Mountain Lakes School District, serving from September 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026. Oversees budget and multiple operations for four schools in a high performing district, including the Lake Drive Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the send-receive regional partnership with Boonton Township. Also serves as Interim Secretary of the Board of Education. Requires NY/NJ-appropriate qualifications and demonstrated knowledge of school business operations, GAAP, payroll, purchasing, and data processing applications, with leadership across budget/finance, transportation, food service, and facility management; strong communication and problem-solving abilities; ability to work independently and collaboratively with district leadership and the Board of Education.

Required Qualifications

  • New Jersey School Business Administrator Standard Certificate
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple budgets for the district including specialized programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of school business operations, economics, law, finance, accounting, and organizational theory
  • Knowledge of GAAP procedures, state/federal accounting guidelines, payroll, purchasing, and accounts payable systems
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in budget/finance, transportation, food service, and facility management
  • Excellent communication skills and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements and accepted practices in school districts related to budget preparation, business operations, insurance, purchasing, transportation, food services, school plant operations, facility planning, school construction, grants, public school employment and collective bargaining
  • Experience with electronic payroll systems and data systems (e.g., Genesis, Systems 3000) and standard office suites (Microsoft Office, Google Suite)
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and abilities
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems, set goals, and work independently and collaboratively with the Board of Education and district staff
  • Comprehensive understanding of the duties of the Board Secretary pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:17-5 et.seq
  • Minimum five (5) years of successful experience as a School Business Administrator / Board Secretary (highly preferred)
  • Required criminal history clearance
