Job Summary

Guide students and families through the college search, financial aid, and application process by developing realistic plans and writing compelling recommendation letters. Collaborate with the college counseling team to analyze data and inform school-wide programs, while advising up to nine students weekly on course selection, grades, and social-emotional growth. Visit colleges regularly, host admissions professionals on campus, and participate in campus life including assemblies, trips, and residential programming as a dorm parent. Maintain open communication with all stakeholders and serve as a liaison between the school and advisee families.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Advanced degree in education or related field preferred
  • A minimum of three years of proven experience working with students and their families in the college admissions process in either a secondary school college counseling office or a college admissions office
  • An in-depth knowledge of colleges and universities as well as a contextual grasp of the current college admissions landscape and financial aid processes
  • Active participation in local and national associations relevant to our profession, such as NACAC, College Board, and ACCIS
  • A team-oriented approach to all aspects of the college counseling process and a collaborative spirit of engagement in all professional endeavors
  • Commitment to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community
  • Willingness to take on multiple roles within the school
  • Exceptional abilities in analytical writing and public speaking
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies
  • Understanding of confidentiality and related issues
  • Receptive to supervision and professional development
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced work environment
  • Demonstrated computer expertise, including proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Must be able to work at a computer for up to 8 hours each day in conjunction with OSHA requirements
  • Must be able to move around the Milton Academy campus without restriction
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in an independent boarding / day school
  • Experience and/or proficiency with Veracross, SCOIR, Slate, and College Kickstart
