Job Summary

Facilitate the development and oversight of federal relations project files related to Musqueam's inherent title and rights by initiating negotiations for capacity funding and project agreements. Represent the community at a senior level in environmental and impact assessment processes, liaising with regulators, proponents, and technical advisory committees while reviewing applications and communicating impacts. Lead or participate in working groups to document interests, formulate negotiation strategies, and advance Musqueam's position on legislative and policy changes through strategic advice to senior management and leadership. Manage complex project timelines, budgets, and deliverables while coordinating internal and external resources, drafting correspondence, and maintaining detailed legal records. Train and supervise project analysts, co-op students, and interns to support departmental initiatives and ensure all activities align with strategic priorities and community engagement objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • post-secondary degree in Political Science, First Nations Studies, or a related field
  • minimum of three years' experience in a closely related field
  • equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • working knowledge of federal and provincial environmental impact assessments processes for large projects (BC Environmental Assessment and Federal Impact Assessment) and relevant legislation
  • strong understanding of Indigenous politics and law
  • criminal record check
  • some evening work

Desired Qualifications

  • understanding of regulatory processes or experience with Environmental Assessments, Impact Assessments or permitting processes
  • cultural competency and knowledge of Musqueam culture and interests or an ability to develop this
  • strategic thinker with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • understanding project management methods and skills and the ability to lead projects
  • exceptional communicator with excellent writing skills
  • ability to maintain confidentiality
  • ability to be discrete, use tact, and good judgment
  • ability to handle multiple priorities, be self-directed and complete tasks/project in accordance with stated deadlines
