Interconnection Engineer

Job Summary
Lead interconnection applications for assigned markets including PJM, MISO, SPP, and SERC by preparing documentation, identifying constraints, and establishing strategies that align with company goals. Manage the interconnection study process for all projects by evaluating reports to assess cost and timeline risks, communicate findings to senior leadership, and negotiate interconnection agreements while evaluating Facilities Interconnection Requirements. Serve as the subject matter expert between the RTO/ISO, transmission owner, and internal teams to guide queued projects through the interconnection process and monitor queue changes affecting the pipeline. Work with the Transmission team to assess network upgrades and congestion for assigned projects. Hybrid schedule in Houston, Texas; full-time position with competitive compensation including bonus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the electric utility industry
- Ability to visually recognize transmission, distribution, and substation equipment in the field
- Capability of reading and preparing preliminary substation one-line diagrams
- Familiarity with the basics of substation and system protection design
- Strong work ethic and exceptionally high work standards
- Strong organizational capacity to simultaneously manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
- Ability to quickly adapt to changes and shift priorities to meet project needs and deadlines
- Ability to work independently
- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
- Visa sponsorship or transfer visas, including H-1B or L-2, are not available for this position
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with the FERC OATT and regional interconnection processes
