Job Summary
Design and build interactive, multimedia stories for ProPublica, collaborating with journalists and editors to create visually engaging, accessible narratives. Responsibilities include producing visual-first stories, prototyping and sketching ideas, and translating complex topics into clear, compelling visuals. Requirements include 3+ years of design experience, strong web development skills (HTML/CSS/JavaScript), and a background in journalism or ability to work with journalistic content. The role is full-time with benefits, based in New York but open to remote candidates in the U.S.; offices in New York, Washington, Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix, and Berkeley. Travel is occasional. Salary range is $110,000–$130,000 annually.
Required Qualifications
- Three years of relevant design experience
- Fluency in HTML, CSS and Javascript
- Solid knowledge of journalism; reporting experience a plus
- Ability to communicate visual ideas through sketches and prototypes
- Willingness to travel occasionally
- Ability to work on several projects at once
- Ability to translate complex topics clearly and compellingly to an audience
- Travel occasionally for meetings and trainings
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
