Job Summary
Intensive Needs Aide I works under the supervision of the teacher to support intensive needs students by implementing individualized education plan activities, reinforcing lessons, setting up required equipment, and assisting with daily living skills. Responsibilities include checking notebooks, supervising testing and makeup work, participating in in-service training related to individual students, supervising students during lunch, assemblies, play periods, and field trips, and communicating any student concerns to the teacher. The role requires maintaining a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality, and adapting to a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment. Requires effective collaboration with teachers, students, and parents and a willingness to participate in ongoing training.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Bilingual in Yup’ik and English preferred
- Demonstrated experience working with young people with special needs in a school setting preferred
- Ability to carry out instructional activities with minimal supervision
- Willingness to participate in future training programs
- Effective communication with teachers, students, and parents
- Ability to keep accurate records and reports
- Mandatory 6 hours of yearly training as required by State Law
- Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment
