Job Summary
ICA Technical Engineer leads the design, development, and execution of intelligent controls and automation systems (PLC/DCS, operator interfaces, and virtualization) within a Brantford, Ontario manufacturing site. Responsibilities include defining technical scope with cross-functional teams, delivering programming/integration improvements, developing electrical/controls documentation, performing validations and test plans, establishing preventive maintenance, and staying current with Industry 4.0 trends to drive continuous improvement. The role emphasizes on-site execution, collaboration with engineers, operators, electricians, and contractors, and ensuring electrical safety best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering (or other related degree and/or work-related experience)
- Skills to program industrial PLC & HMI (Rockwell, Siemens, Omron, Schneider, Eaton, etc.)
- Ability to read and understand electrical single line drawings, flow sheets, layouts, electrical schematics, and P&IDs
- Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with sensors, motors, PLCs, machine vision, networking, and power distribution systems
- Experience with programming languages (Python, Ladder Logic, LabVIEW, Java, C#, etc.)
- Experience with installation, configuration and integration of electrical systems (<1000 V)
- Willingness to work on-site Monday-Friday
- Knowledge of electrical safety procedures
- Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation
- Experience with data analysis, process optimization, and automation methodologies
